I'm Alive, New EP by Anne-Lise Larsen

"I'm Alive", the new EP by Anne-Lise Larsen.

Anne-Lise Larsen Solo

Anne-Lise Larsen. Singer + songwriter, arranger and producer. It's only taken a lifetime to get to this point, but Anne-Lise has finished her first independent, commercially released EP.

The Beginning

That lifetime ago, Anne-Lise cut her musical teeth learning the classics from Dvorak, Beethoven and Shostakovich. Her early musical life meant finger & thumb callouses, perfection in performance, never ending rehearsals and uncomfortable audience silences between symphony movements...(do we clap here?).

Anne-Lise earned her serious musician stripes from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. However, there was always a restless soul underneath the serious headiness of being a professional cellist.

A musical evolution was beginning. After freelancing and teaching cello for a number of years, the desire to sing and be free was overwhelming. With about $400 in her pocket, Anne-Lise took the leap and moved to Sydney to pursue her singing dream.

Sydney

Past projects from Anne-Lise include the A-L Larsen Duo (featuring Andy Manessis) - featured Club Acoustica artist; and her band, Ayelle, with Paul Wheeler (ex-Sunbury Aztecs) on bass, Hans Kristensen on guitar and Alistair Wallis on drums.

The rest? There's no glamour without mystery. Anne-Lise's solo career? Well, it's only just begun.

I'm Alive - The EP

With an exploration into Anne-Lise's musical roots and some of her deepest, darkest secrets, the four track EP promises to be an emotional journey for the listener. "My lyrical ideas and stories come from my own experiences and those around me. I've always been one to wear my heart on my sleeve. My deep dark secrets are only that way until I put them down in song," says Anne-Lise. The music itself has jazz and funk influences, as well as the odd bit of soul & lounge thrown in for good measure. There are also hints of Beethoven-esque chord progressions, harking back to her early life as a cellist. "Seize the Day" which is the epic manifestation of Anne-Lise's outlook on life, fares well with some slightly classical chord progressions. Other influences scattered throughout the music include an acid jazz bassy groove in "Back Where She Began", the dark and troubled R&B inspired loneliness of "Cold Cold City" and her funk anthem "I Just Wanna Be Rich" which delves into a sardonic envy of the filthy rich and old school funk.

"I'm a fan of so many different styles of music. I become obsessed with an artist for a period of time, and I won't listen to anything else. Obsessions of mine range from George Benson, Shostakovich, KISS, Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music (70s stuff), Aerosmith, Renee Geyer...oh the list goes on!".

Glamaphonic™

Over the years, Anne-Lise's difficulty at having to describe her musical style resorted to the creation of her own style. The result is GLAMAPHONIC™! Glamour sounds for glamour hounds. It's her trademark, and you can be assured of musical quality!
